Considerations of Piping Volume and Velocity when specifying Solenoid Valves
When specifying solenoid valves watch for volume and velocity
The purpose of this Tech Brief is to raise awareness of the importance of, and how to calculate velocity. Specifically that,
Allowable pressure drop across a valve does NOT equal Maximum inlet minus Maximum backpressure (or atmosphere)
Note: Solenoid valve maximum inlet and back pressure rating are not to provide a maximum pressure drop value across the valve. Volume and velocity must be considered as equally important data as the pressure ratings.
