History
History of Plast-O-Matic
Bruce DeLorenzo and Dan McCarthy formed Plast-O-Matic Valves, Inc. on September 7, 1967. Dan had a flair for sales and marketing to match Bruce’s engineering prowess; the two men fit well and began to look for opportunities in corrosion resistant process controls. The first valves were machined and shipped from Bruce’s garage.
In April 1969 the company began full-time operations and moved into a small industrial building in Clifton, NJ.
After continuous growth through the 1970s, Dan was anxious to move on to new challenges, while Bruce was looking to take Plast-O-Matic to new heights. After reaching an amicable agreement, Bruce DeLorenzo took sole control of the company in 1981.
Era of Rapid Growth
Innovation, advances and new products brought expansion and opened new markets throughout the 1980s and 1990s. In 1988 the machine shop expanded, and in 1994 the company moved to its current spacious headquarters in Cedar Grove, NJ. This move to a modern corporate campus had a terrific effect on “team spirit,” with employees taking even greater pride in the company. It also enabled Plast-O-Matic to bring injection molding operations in-house.
New Millenium and Renewed Energy
1999 we lost our founder far too soon, but Bruce’s blueprint for success carried the company through an era of continuous growth. In 2010 Chairman Judy DeLorenzo hosted a gala grand opening celebration at our new branch warehouse in Riverside, California. Judy’s ownership and management continues today, with second generation President Tim DeLorenzo at the helm.
Under Tim’s guidance, Plast-O-Matic added solar power, and committed to lean manufacturing as well as other best practices. In 2016 the company achieved ISO 9001:2105 registration, and expanded its international sales efforts. Automation was introduced to the machine shop in 2019.
The family garage is now a distant memory, but 50+ years later, the Plast-O-Matic spirit remains unchanged: Better products, superior service, more satisfied customers.
