Is valve with optional R24 coil with 1/2″ rectified DIN connector, suitable for applications that are energized intermittently.

Mode of Operation:

Normally closed (energize to open). No pressure differential required.

Service:

Pressure, drain, and vacuum. (must specify with order). Please note that the 1″ EASMT is only rated to 15″ of mercury (partial vacuum). All others rated to full vacuum.

Handling of Dry Chlorine & Use of Thermoplastic Valves: When ordering a valve for chlorine service, please specify “Chlorine-Vacuum” on the order.

Plast-O-Matic Valves are not recommended for use with pressurized dry chlorine gas.

Valve must be installed in upright, vertical orientation for maximum cycle life. Valves installed horizontally will usually function properly (this should be determined by testing in your application), but at the expense of valve longevity. Valves with 58 watt coils (discontinued) MUST be mounted in an upright, vertical orientation.

Application:

Series EASMT and EASYMT automatically shut off flow of highly corrosive and ultra-pure liquids. They can handle acids, caustics, solvents, chlorine solutions, sodium solutions, deionized water, reverse osmosis water, brewery processes, etc. and do not require pressure to aid in opening the valve.

Design:

Valves are spring return normally closed and direct acting with a heavy duty push-pull plunger design. There is no minimum pressure required for operation. The PTFE bellows shaft seal eliminates the need for an elastomer seal which can weaken as a result of chemical attack. Provides low friction sealing, non-sticking operation, and million cycle design. The bellows design also allows a stock valve to be used for vacuum or pressure. A poppet seat ensures bubble-tight shutoff.

Available in 1/2″, 3/4″, and 1″ sizes (EASMT) or 1/4″ and 1/2″ (EASYMT). The EASMT has a larger orifice, which permits higher flow with a slight reduction in pressure rating. The EASYMT has a slightly smaller orifice (.375″) and offers higher pressures at the expense of flow. Even so, the 1/4″ EASYMT has a Cv rating of 1.2, which is still outstanding.

After 1,000,000 cycles, we recommend that the valve be disassembled and inspected. It is also recommended to replace the elastomer seals and bellows at this point. Contact your distributor for a seal kit. For heavy use applications, you may wish to order a spare seal kit with the valve. Seal replacement takes but a few minutes with common tools; no special training is required.

Standard coil for PTFE bellows solenoid valves is the new IP65 W24 (24 watt) coil. This molded unit is equipped with a rectified, lighted, Z-COOL DIN connector with wire leads. The coil is designed to draw energy for opening, then remain open with reduced energy. On average this will reduce energy costs by 75%. It is continuous duty and remains at ambient temperature when continuously energized. W24 is a superior coil for applications that are constantly energized.

Optional coil for PTFE bellows solenoid valves is the new R24 (24 watt) coil. This molded unit is equipped with a rectified 1/2″ DIN connection in place of wire leads. Coil assembly is IP65 rated. The R24 solenoid coil does not included the advantages of the Z-Cool Connector: It is continuous duty and operates with a surface temperature of approximately 220°F when continuously energized for an hour or longer. R24 coil does not include the running light found on the standard W24 coil. R24 provides a lower initial cost, but higher operating cost due to increased energy use. It is best suited for applications requiring periodic energization.

   NOTES:

    1. The pressure ratings shown in the table are maximum values. The valve will open at the maximum listed inlet pressure and it will close at the maximum listed back pressure. The valve may not operate properly, however, when the maximum inlet and back pressure values are used at the same time. Refer to chart, Pressure Ratings & Flow Rate Considerations, below.
  • Model #s show Viton seals. For EPDM, change “V” to “EP”.
  • Standard coil is W24 Fully Rectified, with Lighted DIN connector & 18″ leads. For R24 Coil (no Z-COOL, no light, no leads) change “W” in part number to “R”.
  • All model numbers must be completed with body material suffix; see below.
  • Valves above rated for full vacuum EXCEPT for 1″ sizes, which are rated to 15″ Hg.
  • 24 watt coils are continuous duty.
  • .452 orifice on 1″ size is a higher pressure, lower Cv option.

Pressure Ratings & Flow Rate Considerations

The pressure ratings shown in the table above are maximum values. The valve will open at the maximum listed inlet pressure and it will close at the maximum listed back pressure. The valve may not operate properly, however, when the maximum inlet and back pressure values are experienced at the same time. The governing parameter is velocity in feet per second (ft/sec) through the valve. Velocity is determined by pipe size and flow rate. To determine if your application exceeds the velocity tolerances for this valve, refer to the chart below.

Flow Rate and Equivalent Velocity

Valve Pipe Size

Flow Rate at
 5 feet per second velocity

Flow Rate at
 10 feet per second velocity
0.50″ (½ in.); NPT/BSP 3.4 GPM
17.4 LPM
6.8 GPM
34.8 LPM
0.75″ (¾ in.); NPT/BSP 6.4 GPM
32.7 LPM
12.8 GPM
65.4 LPM
1.00″ (1 in.); NPT/BSP 10.8 GPM
55.2 LPM
21.6 GPM
110.4 LPM

If your flow rate (in Gallons Per Minute or Liters Per Minute) is below the 5 ft/sec column for your pipe size, the velocity is within plastic piping industry standards and the valve will function properly.

If your flow rate indicates a velocity above the accepted standard of 5 ft/sec but less than 10 ft/sec, Plast-O-Matic does not guarantee proper operation. The valve may still function, but if it emits a chattering sound, discontinue use. At fluid velocities above 5 ft/sec you must consider water hammer in the system design.

If your flow rate is higher than that listed in the 10 ft/sec column for your pipe size, this valve must not be used in your application.
